The next Conservative Party of Canada leadership election will be held to choose a successor to Stephen Harper, who led the Conservative Party of Canada as its first leader from 2004 following the merger of the Canadian Alliance and Progressive Conservative Parties. Harper lead the party through 5 general elections with the opposition party increasing its seat count in 2004, forming two minority governments in 2006, and 2008, respectively, and then a majority government in 2011.
